The essence of Amoako Boafo’s project which he achieved perfectly was to bring innovation and impact as a substantial significance to the Ghanaian art scene by building an exclusive structure that’s beyond just a building, a catalyst for change. With the goal to provide a dedicated, modern space for local artists and create a new, vibrant, and, “energetic” creative hub in Ghana, Amoako Boafo built an exclusive autonomous ecosystem to support African artists, serving as an alternative to traditional Western infrastructure.

Designed and built by Tzou Lubroth Architekten for Artist Amoako Boafo a few years ago, the aesthetic concept is a hybrid topology that combines a home, a painter’s studio, a gallery as well as facilities for three artists-in-residence in Ghana. The rammed earth structure was built with local walls and galvanized steel platforms and railings combined to form a sculpted environment that is rigid yet earthbound and free. The project was motivated by Artist Baofo’s desire to return to his homeland, Accra, with the mission of bringing a newfound energy to the city’s art scene, a space that promotes collaboration and interaction, acting as a convivial space for gathering and exhibit opening.

The exclusive rammed earth walls building which is located in an area with access to the seaside, consists of two volumes interacting through slight shifts in geometry as the artist’s house and design studio occupy one volume while the residences, dining areas, and public gallery occupy the other. Tzou Lubroth Architekten’s design concept produced an exclusive hybrid building for public and private programs, something beyond just a dwelling place.
