LAGOS 8.0 AN ARCHITECTURAL AUTHOPOIESIS

The biological meaning of the word AUTOPOIESIS is regeneration! So AN ARCHITECTURE AUTOPOIESIS means the regeneration of our cities. The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Architects have done a great job by opening the eyes of the industry players to unique ideas on how our cities could actually be regenerated and create rooms for better living.

In Jasmine and Zinnia Halls, Expo Center of the Eko Hotel and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos The Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) Lagos State Chapter held the 8th edition of Lagos Architects Forum [LAF2017] in an exclusive manner. The opening prayer was given by the immediate past Chairman of the state Chapter Arc. Ladipo Lewis and the welcome address were given by the current Chairman of the chapter Arc. Fitzgerald Umah, while the opening speech was given by the president of NIA Arc. Tonye Oliver Braide. Lagos State government representatives and top architects in Nigeria like Arc. Fred Towry Coker and others were also present at the event. There was a great presentation by the Lagos State Honourable Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development Mr. Wasiu Anifowose. Other Guest Speakers at the event includes; HRM. Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe the 21st Obi of Ontisha, Professor Folasade Tolulope Ogunsola of the University of Lagos, Arc. Francoise Aramide Akinosho of FAA Designs and others!

In his welcome address, the Chairman of the State Chapter Arc. Fitzgerald Umah welcomed the Special Guests, Students, Visitors, the Press and Exhibitors on behalf of the executive committee and the entire member of the chapter to Lagos Architects Forum LAF2017 8.0 he specially welcomed His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Lagos State Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his Cabinet for making out time to be part of the event, Arc. Fitzgerald Umah honoured the Governor and his team in a special way for the good works being done in Lagos State, with the level of infrastructural works on the increase, the consistent fight against building collapse, and other numerous to mention. He expressed his confidence in the sustainability of the new Housing Program launched by the State Government.

The Chairman further welcomed the National Executive Council Members of the Nigerian Institute of Architects [NIA] and other members who have supported the State Chapter in different ways. And he acknowledged the presence of Members of the Built Environment Professionals, and Members of the Association of Professional Bodies of Nigeria, the Speakers, Partners, Sponsors and others for their constant support and collaboration. He thanked all for being part of this year’s Lagos Architects Forum, a platform that brings together great minds and the only congregation of the brightest Architects and allied Professionals in Lagos. It is truly and indeed an honor to be your host for this year’s event, he said.
