IMAGINATION 2016 TALENT HUNT

The maiden edition of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) students’ affairs Imagination 2016 Talent Hunt event was held in 2016, leaving beautiful moments in its trail. From the nationwide competition to the glamorous event at the Freedom Park, Lagos Island, Lagos-Nigeria, every bit of the journey was great fun. Entries from the universities were received and displayed at the major entrance for guests to behold. Designs exploring sustainable materials usage showcased amazing details and creativity from students across the nation on the affordable housing project schemes described in the competition brief.

Day 1 featured students and guests arriving and completing their registrations. Guest speakers like Arc. Charles Majoroh, Arc. Chuka Okolo and Arc. Mrs Abimbola Ajayi graced the opening of the event. Students were led into different parts of Lagos Island within a 1-mile radius from the event place. The Oba’s palace, Obalende, Tinubu square and the popular Olowo’s monument. Everyone thereafter returned to Freedom Park for a lunch break and the workshop sessions kicked in, where the facilitators engaged them in principles of art, sketching, charcoal art, pastel, oil painting etc.


After two 1-hour workshop sessions, the talent hunt began as participants were given easels, brushes, canvases, model making tools to reproduce the captivating features they found within the marked areas during their field walk. Day 1 ended and the participants suspended all work for continuation on Day 2.

Day 2 was even more beautiful. The NIA President, Arc. Tonye Oliver Braide arrived in the company of other executives. The competition judges Arc. Kamal Dahiru, Arc. Mrs Morenike Okunrinboye and Arc. West arrived and assessed the submissions at the exhibition area. More notable guests arrived and also watched as the talent hunt participants battled it out for the best submissions. The president’s speech lit up the occasion followed by the speech by the HGS announcing the winning entries for the competition. The judges then went around grading the talent hunt competition works as two guests from Lafarge (the official sponsor) graced the occasion.



The event closed in the evening with a Jamboree night and announcement of the winners of the Talent Hunt competition.
